Welcome to the UNC Department of Statistics and Operations Research and Biostatistics summer Boot Camp course.  This program is meant to serve as a refresher of basic techniques in analysis and linear algebra, and should help you quickly get settled into your first year graduate level courses.  Both masters and doctoral students are encouraged to attend.

If you have any questions, please contact Jon at jpwill@live.unc.edu.

The 2017 UNC STOR-BIOS Summer Boot Camp will be held on weekdays from August 7 to August 18 with the exception of Thursday, August 17th for the Graduate School Orientation.  All first year students are encouraged to attend the orientation.

Each day there will be two lectures (Analysis and Linear Algebra) and tutorials:

Linear Algebra:

  • Analysis IA: Hongsheng Liu
  • Linear Algebra IA: Karthik Prakhya
  • Time and Place: 5pm – 7pm, Hanes Hall 120

Although attendance is not mandatory, incoming students (especially doctoral students) are strongly encourage to attend and are expected to have a strong grasp of the material covered in both courses.

The Boot Camp is a great opportunity to ask any analysis or linear algebra questions you have before the semester starts and it’s too late!  Both instructors are graduate students so don’t be afraid to ask any questions that you think you should already know the answers to.

As a tradition, there will be a picnic at the end of the Boot Camp.  Food and drinks will be supplied, and every Boot Camp participant is encouraged to come and have fun!  The picnic will be on Friday, August 18th at 4:30pm (following the last lecture of the Boot Camp).  It will be held at Wilson Park in Carrboro (101 Williams Street).
