Welcome to the UNC Department of Statistics and Operations Research summer Boot Camp course.  This program is meant to serve as a refresher of basic techniques in analysis and linear algebra, and should help you quickly get settled into your first year graduate level courses.  Both masters and doctoral students are encouraged to attend.

If you have any questions, please contact Carson at cmosso (at) live dot unc (.) edu

The 2021 UNC STOR Summer Boot Camp will be held on weekdays from  August 2 to August 13 . On August 12 there is a day off for student orientation.

Each day there will be two lectures (Analysis and Linear Algebra) and tutorials: please see the STOR Bootcamp 2021 Sakai page for links to the Zoom meetings (your UNC email address should have received an invitation to the Sakai page). The links are in the ‘Resources’ folder.

If you were not added to the Sakai page but are planning on attending the boot camp, please let Carson know.

  • Lecture: Online via Zoom, 10am-12pm ET
  • Instructor: Ben Brown
  • Office: Basement Hanes Hall
  • Course site

Linear Algebra:

  • Lecture: Online via Zoom, 1pm-3pm
  • Instructor: Carson Mosso
  • Office: B30 Hanes Hall
  • Course site

There will also be tutorial sessions around class times. These are informal office hours for you to come ask questions if needed. The course graders are as follows:

  • Analysis: Pavlos
  • Linear Algebra: Ben

Although attendance is not mandatory, incoming students (especially doctoral students) are strongly encouraged to attend and are expected to have a strong grasp of the material covered in both courses.

The Boot Camp is a great opportunity to ask any analysis or linear algebra questions you have before the semester starts and it’s too late!  Both instructors are graduate students, so don’t be afraid to ask any questions, even if you think you should already know the answers.
